Our Story

Re & Sons’ humble beginnings started with Umberto “Bert” Re in 1953.

He started his career as a young French Polisher, but it was short lived due to the allergies he suffered from the chemicals he used in applying his trade. No longer able to work as a French Polisher, and with a wife and 6 young children to support, Umberto needed to look for another venture.

He turned to what he had known from an early age, fine Italian foods. Growing up, his father was a merchant and would import Italian groceries into Australia. He quickly made the decision, and together with a friend started a local corner butcher shop in Mount Hawthorn, Western Australia. Here they would sell premium fresh meat to the local community and customers within the Perth Hills.

As the business grew, Umberto was joined by his sons Joseph, Christopher and Robert and established ‘B. Re & Sons’. Together the family grew the business. Venturing into smallgoods and deli meats they quickly became one of Perth’s premium smallgoods producers.

What Umberto started all those years ago continues today, with the next generation of Re’s at the helm. Joseph Re, along with his sons Eric & Jon Paul Re are continuing their grandfather’s legacy.

Today we celebrate 70 years of the family business. Things change in 70 years, and as customer demand increased, and the business grew, Re & Sons moved to their expanded facility in Malaga, Western Australia. But what hasn’t changed is our passion for what we do and our dedication to craftsmanship.

We maintain the same qualities that our Grandfather instilled in us. He taught us old school techniques and we still use them today - long natural curing periods, hand boning, filling and tying - we believe these skills are essential in creating the delicate flavour profiles that our customers come to expect.

We believe in quality ingredients and supporting local. We continue to learn as a family, honing long-standing artisan skills and further developing flavours and recipes to meet the changing needs of today’s market. Our vision is to allow for generations of Australians to experience authentic salami, hams and bacon.

It’s a simple, but proven formula, having been celebrated for the way we do things and named Perth Royal Food Awards - Grand Champion Smallgoods....for a third year.

Specialty Meats…It’s what we know...It’s what we do.
